The Shimmering Mosaic Lid Garden

Steps:

  • Place the plastic container on a flat table.
  • Use markers to draw grass and flower stems on the sides of the container.
  • Put long strips of masking tape across the lid with the sticky side facing up.
  • Secure the edges of the tape so it stays on the lid.
  • Have your child pick up one sequin using their thumb and pointer finger.
  • Press the sequin onto the sticky tape to make a flower on top of the stem.
  • Continue until the garden on the lid is full of colorful sequin flowers.

Safety Tip:
Sequins are very small and can be a choking hazard, so please supervise your child closely during play.

The Static Magic Paper Lift

The Static Magic Paper Lift

Steps:

  • Help your child tear the tissue paper into very small, light pieces.
  • Place all the tiny paper bits into a pile on a flat table.
  • Blow up the balloon and tie it tightly for your child.
  • Have your child rub the balloon quickly against their hair.
  • Hold the balloon just above the paper bits and watch them jump up!
  • Challenge your child to move the stuck paper over to an empty bowl.
  • Use your fingers to peel the paper off and start again.

Safety Tip:
Adult supervision is required when using balloons. Immediately pick up and discard any broken balloon pieces to keep your child safe.

The Cotton Ball Scoop Race

The Cotton Ball Scoop Race

Steps:

  • Place a large bowl filled with cotton balls on a table in front of your child.
  • Set an empty basket a short distance away on the same table.
  • Hand your child a spoon and show them how to scoop up one cotton ball.
  • Encourage them to carry the ‘cloud’ on the spoon without letting it fall.
  • Ask them to drop the cotton ball gently into the empty basket.
  • Challenge them to fill the entire basket as fast as they can!
  • To add a challenge, move the basket further away to encourage longer reaching.

Safety Tip:
Always supervise your child during play to ensure they use the spoon safely. Keep all materials away from the mouth to prevent any risk.

The Foil Pan Color Pond

Steps:

  • Fill three paper cups halfway with cool water and add two drops of different food coloring to each.
  • Place the empty aluminium foil pan onto a flat table or a waterproof surface.
  • Ask your child to hold the eyedropper using their thumb and pointer finger.
  • Challenge them to suck up the colored water from a cup and carefully move it over to the pan.
  • Have your child use their other hand to hold the edge of the pan to keep it still.
  • Encourage them to release small drops into the pan to create colorful patterns or ‘ponds.’
  • Try to mix colors together in the pan to see what new colors appear!

Safety Tip:
Always supervise your child during water play. Ensure that food coloring is handled carefully to prevent staining of clothes or household surfaces.

The Balloon Cup Wobble

The Balloon Cup Wobble

Steps:

  • Blow up a balloon and tie it securely.
  • Place the balloon inside a bowl so it stands upright.
  • Use masking tape to stick three baking cups onto the top curve of the balloon.
  • Give your child a pair of tweezers and a small pile of colorful beads.
  • Ask your child to hold the bowl with one hand to keep it still.
  • Challenge them to use the tweezers to pick up one bead at a time.
  • Carefully drop the bead into one of the baking cups without tipping the balloon.
  • Watch the balloon wobble as they try to balance the weight of the beads!

Safety Tip:
CHOKING HAZARD: Beads and balloons are small parts or can break into small pieces. Always supervise your child closely during this activity. Keep materials away from younger siblings.
