The Paper Cup Catch-It

Purpose

This classic game is a wonderful way to work on your child's eye-hand coordination. They must watch the ball carefully to catch it in the cup. It also helps with motor planning as they learn how hard to swing the string. Using both hands to build the toy also builds bilateral coordination. It is a simple craft that provides hours of active play!

Activity Steps

Steps:

  • Use the scissors to cut a piece of string about two feet long.
  • Tape one end of the string to the side of the ping pong ball.
  • Tape the other end of the string inside the bottom of the paper cup.
  • Ask your child to hold the cup by the handle or the rim.
  • Swing the ball into the air and try to catch it inside the cup!
  • Challenge them to see how many times they can catch it in a row.
  • Try using the non-dominant hand for an extra challenge!

Safety Tip:
Always supervise your child during play. The string should be kept away from the neck at all times. Ensure the ball is not aimed at others.
