The Pipe Cleaner Mirror Match

Steps:

  • Tape a large sheet of butcher paper to the table.
  • Use a marker to draw a straight line down the middle of the paper.
  • Take one pipe cleaner and bend it into a simple shape like a zigzag.
  • Tape your shape onto the left side of the center line.
  • Give your child a second pipe cleaner of the same length.
  • Ask them to bend their pipe cleaner to match your shape exactly.
  • Have them tape their finished shape on the right side of the line.

Safety Tip:
Supervise your child to ensure the metal ends of the pipe cleaners are handled carefully to avoid pokes.

The Spiky Paper Roll Tower

The Spiky Paper Roll Tower

Steps:

  • Use your markers to draw several colorful dots on an empty paper roll.
  • Help your child use the hole puncher to click a hole through every dot.
  • Use masking tape to stick the bottom of the paper roll to a flat cardboard base.
  • Ask your child to hold the base steady with their helper hand.
  • Use the other hand to slide a straw through one hole and out a hole on the other side.
  • Continue until the paper roll looks like a spiky tower full of straws.
  • Use a pincer grasp to carefully place one bead on the end of every straw!

Safety Tip:
Always supervise your child during play. Small beads and cut straw pieces are choking hazards. Keep all materials away from the mouth.

The Cardboard Key Turn Challenge

The Cardboard Key Turn Challenge

Steps:

  • Find an empty shoe box and use your markers to draw a small keyhole circle on one side.
  • Help your child use the scissors to cut a narrow slit right through the center of that circle.
  • Open the box and press a large lump of playdough firmly against the inside wall behind the hole.
  • Close the lid and use your markers to decorate a craft stick to look like a colorful magic key.
  • Ask your child to hold the box steady with one hand while they aim the key into the hole.
  • Challenge them to push the stick into the playdough and twist it back and forth like a key!

Safety Tip:
Always supervise your child when they are using scissors to cut the cardboard. Make sure the playdough stays inside the box and is not put in the mouth.

The Silver Foil Path Trace

The Silver Foil Path Trace

Steps:

  • Glue a sheet of aluminium foil onto a piece of cardboard.
  • Use your hands to smooth the foil until it is very flat.
  • Use a bright marker to draw a curvy path across the foil.
  • Ask your child to pick up a pom-pom using their pinching fingers.
  • Challenge them to slide the pom-pom slowly along the drawn path.
  • Try drawing a zigzag or a circle to make it harder!

Safety Tip:
Always supervise your child during play. Small pom-poms can be a choking hazard. Ensure the edges of the foil are tucked safely behind the cardboard to prevent any sharp edges.

The Paper Roll Pincer Squeezer

The Paper Roll Pincer Squeezer

Steps:

  • Use your scissors to cut several empty paper rolls into small rings about one inch thick.
  • Let your child decorate each ring with colorful patterns using the markers.
  • Adult Step: Cut four narrow vertical slots into a flat piece of sturdy cardboard base.
  • Ask your child to use their thumb and pointer finger to squeeze one paper roll ring until it is flat.
  • Challenge them to slide the flattened ring into a slot on the cardboard base to make it stand up.
  • Continue squeezing and sliding more rings into each other to build a tall and wobbly sculpture!
  • Encourage your child to use their helper hand to hold the base steady while the other hand adds new pieces.

Safety Tip:
Always supervise your child while they are using scissors. Make sure the cardboard edges are smooth to avoid any small scrapes during play.
