- Table

Why it helps
This fun activity is designed to build the foundational strength and precision needed for school tasks like writing and managing buttons. Holding the tweezers strengthens the small muscles in the hand (intrinsic muscles) and promotes a mature tripod grasp, similar to holding a pencil. Peeling the small, sticky stickers off the resistant plastic surface requires strong pincer control and graded force, which is excellent heavy work input for the fingers. Using their non-dominant hand to stabilize the container while the other hand works promotes good bilateral coordination. This helps improve focus and eye-hand coordination as they carefully transfer the tiny sticker to the target spot.
Steps
- Tear off a sheet of aluminum foil. Lay it flat on the table and smooth out the wrinkles.
- Use markers to draw 10 to 12 small circles randomly across the foil surface. These are your sticker targets.
- Place a few small stickers (dot stickers work best) onto the plastic container lid. Press them down firmly so they are hard to peel.
- Ask your child to hold the container steady with their helper hand. Use the tweezers to grasp the edge of a sticky sticker.
- Peel the sticker off the container lid against the resistance. This requires controlled, strong force.
- Carefully carry the sticker over the foil and use the tweezers to press the sticker onto a marker circle. Repeat until all stickers are placed.
Safety tip: Due to the small size of the stickers and tweezers, constant and direct adult supervision is required. These materials are choking hazards for children who still place objects in their mouths.
Make it easier
- Use large stickers and press them on lightly so they peel off easily.
- Peel the stickers with fingers first, then use the tweezers only to carry and press them.
- Use tweezers with wide, flat tips, which grip a sticker edge more easily.
Make it harder
- Draw the circles in colors and match each sticker to a circle of the same color.
- Use small dot stickers and smaller circles that need exact placement.
- Use the tweezers in the non-dominant hand for a few stickers.
What to watch for
- Notice how your child holds the tweezers. Holding them like a pencil, near the tips, gives the most control.
- Watch for stickers folding onto themselves. Peeling slowly from one edge keeps them flat.
- If the crinkly foil bothers your child, draw the target circles on paper instead.
Where this helps in daily life
Using tweezers and peeling stickers builds the fingertip control kids need for peeling labels off fruit, separating pages that stick together, and holding a pencil near its tip.
