The Foil Pancake Button Press
Purpose
This sensory-filled activity is a wonderful way to help your toddler develop hand strength and focus. By tearing and crumpling aluminum foil, your little one works on using both hands together. Pressing small buttons into the dense foil requires firm pressure. This provides deep sensory input to the tiny muscles in their fingers and hands. It is a calming task that encourages concentration while practicing the pincer grasp. Plus, the shiny texture and clicking sounds of the buttons make it an engaging experience for curious minds!
Activity Steps
Steps:
- Tear off a large sheet of aluminum foil using both of your hands.
- Encourage your toddler to crumple the foil into a flat, thick pancake shape.
- Place the foil pancake inside the aluminum foil pan or onto a piece of cardboard for stability.
- Give your child a handful of colorful buttons from your collection.
- Ask them to use their pointer finger and thumb to pick up one button at a time.
