The Balloon Tongs Catch
Purpose
This playful activity is great for helping your child learn how to control the strength of their hands. They will use kitchen tongs to catch and carry a floating balloon. This teaches them to grade their hand force. Squeezing too hard makes the balloon slip. Squeezing too gently makes it drop. It is a wonderful way to build eye-hand coordination. It also supports motor planning and bilateral coordination. Your child will love the challenge of balancing the balloon. They get to play a fun game while strengthening their hand muscles!
Activity Steps
Steps:
- Blow up a bright balloon and tie it securely.
- Place an empty basket on the floor across the room.
- Give your child a pair of sturdy tongs to hold.
- Toss the balloon gently into the air for them.
- Challenge your child to squeeze and catch the balloon using only the tongs.
- Have them carry the balloon carefully and drop it into the basket.
- If the balloon drops, they must start over from the beginning.
Safety Tip:
Always supervise your child during play. Discard any popped balloon pieces immediately to prevent a choking hazard.
