The Noodle Button Tunnel

Steps:

  • Cut a piece of yarn about three feet long using your scissors.
  • Tie one end of the yarn to a sturdy chair leg.
  • Thread the other end through the center of a pool noodle.
  • Place your buttons in the aluminium foil pan at the start.
  • Hold the loose end of the yarn tight so it stays straight.
  • Ask your child to slide a button onto the yarn.
  • They must push it all the way through the pool noodle tunnel.
  • Have them drop the buttons into different baking cups at the finish line!

Safety Tip:
Adult supervision is required. Small buttons are a choking hazard. Keep all small materials away from children who still place objects in their mouths.

The Beaded Rainbow Branch

The Beaded Rainbow Branch

Steps:

  • Find a smooth branch outside.
  • Make sure it is sturdy but not too heavy.
  • Tie one end of the yarn to the base of the branch.
  • Ask your child to hold the branch steady with one hand.
  • Show your child how to wrap the yarn around the branch.
  • They should keep the yarn tight.
  • After a few wraps, slide a bead onto the yarn.
  • Continue wrapping the yarn over the bead to lock it in place.
  • Switch yarn colors to create a rainbow pattern.
  • Tie a knot at the end to finish your art.

Adult supervision is recommended. Small beads are a choking hazard. Keep materials away from small children and pets.

Bottle Cap Finger Skaters

Bottle Cap Finger Skaters

Steps:

  • Lay a large piece of cardboard flat on a table.
  • Use masking tape to create a winding skating rink path across the board.
  • Draw small start and finish flags at the ends of the tape path using markers.
  • Take two plastic bottle caps from empty water bottles.
  • Ask your child to place their index and middle finger inside the two caps.
  • Challenge them to skate their fingers along the tape path.
  • They must stay on the tape and keep the caps flat while moving.

Safety Tip:
Ensure the bottle caps are clean and have no sharp plastic edges before playing.

The Balancing Button Pendulum

The Balancing Button Pendulum

Steps:

  • Tape one end of the string to the top of a doorway.
  • Use the hole puncher to make two holes in the paper cup.
  • Tie the other end of the string through the holes to hang the cup.
  • Place five buttons inside the cup to give it a little weight.
  • Set up three cardboard strips as pins on the floor nearby.
  • Pull the cup back and release it to knock the pins down.
  • Try to keep the buttons inside the cup during the swing!

Ensure the doorway is clear of traffic and the string is not left unattended to prevent tripping.

The Hanger Puppet Parade

The Hanger Puppet Parade

Steps:

  • Draw three colorful characters on construction paper using your markers.
  • Carefully cut out each character using your scissors.
  • Cut three pieces of yarn, each about five inches long.
  • Tie one piece of yarn to the top of each paper character.
  • Hold the hanger steady with your non-dominant hand.
  • Pinch a clothespin to clip the yarn to the bottom bar of the hanger.
  • Hold the hanger’s hook and move it slowly from left to right.
  • See your puppets parade through the air!
