Why it helps

This fun activity helps your child develop precise hand movements. It uses tools to move small objects through a narrow path. This builds the focus needed for writing and school tasks. It also teaches them how to use both hands together effectively.

Steps

Fold three index cards into arches to make small tunnels.
Tape the arches in a straight line onto a flat table.
Place a colorful bead at the start of the tunnel row.
Ask your child to hold the table surface with their helper hand.
Use the tweezers to push the bead all the way through the line.
Finally, use the tweezers to pick up the bead and drop it into a cup.

Safety tip: Always supervise your child during play. Small beads are a choking hazard. Keep all materials away from the mouth.

Make it easier

Use a large bead or a pom-pom that is easier to push and grab.
Fold the index cards gently into wide, tall arches so there is more room inside.
Let your child push the bead through with a finger or a craft stick first.

Make it harder

Add more tunnels in a curve or a zigzag.
Send several beads through, one at a time, in a color order you choose together.
Carry the bead through the tunnels in the tweezer tips without letting it touch the table.

What to watch for

Notice whether your child pushes with the tweezer tips closed together or open. Closed tips give a steadier push.
Watch whether your child gets down low to look through the tunnels and how their eyes follow the bead.
If tweezers are tiring, switch to kitchen tongs and a ping pong ball for a few rounds.
