How the brain makes sense of what the eyes see. This skill helps children solve puzzles, recognize shapes, and tell the difference between similar letters like ‘b’ and ‘d’ or ‘p’ and ‘q’.
Using a paper cup, a styrofoam plate, or a piece of play dough, instruct the child to place the spaghetti vertically.
Provide the child with cheerios or beads and have him string the small objects onto the spaghetti.
If using different color beads or cheerios, you can have the child either sort the items into the different color groups or work on patterns (e.g. yellow-red-yellow-red…)
This activity is divided into 2 parts: creating the rackets and playing ping pong with the rackets and the balloon.
First, glue the wooden stick to the paper plate with the wooden stick sticking out of the plate. The wooden stick is going to be where you hold the racket so the length of the stick that comes out of the paper plate should be at least 4 inches.
Once the sticks are glued, use the crayons to color or write on the paper plates.
Inflate the balloon.
Hold the paper plate racket and bounce the ball around.
If done in a group setting, you can instruct the kids to use the paper plate to bounce the balloon from one to another while playing a ping-pong game.
On colorful construction paper or paper with different designs (e.g. scrapbooking paper), draw 8-10 pairs of mittens. You can also let the child trace the shape a few times.
Cut, or allow the child to cut the pairs.
If using blank color construction paper (i.e. with no design), draw different designs on each pair (a pair with straight lines, a pair with circles, a pair with wiggly lines, etc.). You can also write letters or numbers on the different pairs.
Once the mittens are ready, place them on the table and mix them.
Provide the child with clothespins.
Ask the child to find matching mittens and clip them together using the clothespins
